What they do

Every service the piano actually needs.

From the standard tuning to a full rebuild, quoted per job or on a regular contract. Real prices from their own page, because piano work should not be a mystery.

01

Standard tuning

$195. 90 to 120 minutes. The tension of 220+ strings adjusted, note by note, verified by ear before the piano is given back.

02

Pitch raise

$75. The preliminary "double tuning" that brings a flat piano back up to A440 before the regular tuning. Each string holds 150 to 200 pounds of tension. Some pianos need it after years of silence.

For long-unplayed pianos
03

Action regulation

Upright $850 to $1,000. Grand $950 to $1,200. The thousands of working action parts adjusted so every key answers the same way.

Who they serve

Serving two customers: the piano, and the pianist.

Their own words, and their whole philosophy: caring for the total musician and their piano is their total concern and focus. They exist to educate, assist, inspire, and guide piano owners, from students and families to teachers, concert halls, universities, and recording studios.

That is why they rebuild instead of just tuning. A piano is not a piece of furniture with keys. It is 220+ strings holding 16 to 22 tons of tension, thousands of action parts, and a soundboard that has to sing. Their network of professional piano technicians, rebuilders, teachers, suppliers, and piano movers services clients across the United States.

Tuning science

What is a Pitch Raise?

The pitch correction, explained: when your piano falls far flat, one tuning is not enough. The "double tuning" stretches each string to calculated tension before the real tuning begins.

Real questions, from their own site

The things piano owners actually ask.

How often should my piano be tuned? +

A piano that is tuned and serviced regularly holds its pitch. Left alone, each passing year pulls the pitch further from proper tension, and after several silent years it may need several pitch raises to reestablish long-term stability. If you are unsure where yours stands, the comprehensive evaluation tells you.

How does humidity and the seasonal changes affect the condition of my piano? +

Vast changes in temperature, humidity, and atmosphere pull the pitch flat or sharp, loosen pins, and stress the soundboard. Humidity control is the key to preserving a piano for optimal performance, and they install full Dampp-Chaser systems with a 5-year factory warranty.

What is the difference between a piano that costs $100,000, and a piano that costs $10,000? +

Maker, age, condition, and the market all matter. Their appraisal and valuation service gives you the year of manufacture and an approximate fair market value, so you know exactly what you own before you decide anything.

How do I know what new piano to buy? +

They help you find the right new or used piano for sale or rent in your area, and their buying assistance walks you through the checklist. They service all 21 makes, so the advice is not a sales pitch for one brand.

Is it in my best interests to rebuild my piano? +

If your piano is due for rebuilding or restoration, distance is not an issue. Ask for a customized quote to restore your piano. Their factory-trained technicians and artisan craftsmen hold a portfolio of 1,000s of pianos rebuilt over several decades.

Yamaha, Bösendorfer, Steinway, Fazioli... what is the difference? +

Each maker has its own voice, and these people know them from the inside: they tune, repair, regulate, and rebuild all 21 makes, from Yamaha to Bösendorfer to Steinway to Fazioli. Ask them during your evaluation.
